Hyperbaric oxygen therapy boosts oxygen levels in your bloodstream and reaches cells needing repair by increasing air pressure within a special chamber. At our new Byron Bay studio, you can schedule a session as a standalone recovery method. Alternatively, enhance your experience by combining it with our other offerings, such as saunas, ice baths, contrast pools, and red light bed therapy.
Under normal circumstances, oxygen is carried through the body via haemoglobin within the red blood cells. When you are inside a hyperbaric chamber, due to the pressure, there is excess oxygen that dissolves directly in the plasma within the blood. This oxygen can easily access tissues that have poor blood flow, such as joints and slow-healing wounds.
TH7 offers mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy in chambers operating between 1.3 and 1.5 atmospheres. This kind of pressure is sought after by sports teams and wellness centres in order to improve recovery times and enhance longevity. On the other hand, hospitals use high-pressure oxygen treatment at 2.0 atmospheres or greater pressure. This amount of pressure is needed only for certain diseases, like decompression sickness and wound healing problems.
In other words, you get a non-invasive method for enhancing the natural healing functions of your body without the need to experience the pressure of a clinical chamber.
The applications of clinical treatments present the best justification for using HBOT. Although its use in accelerating recovery, improving physical performance, prolonging life, and increasing wellness continues to evolve, there are certain instances that have been proven effective. TH7 focuses on areas where existing studies are robust and where professional sports have long embraced HBOT.
Soft tissue tends to heal more slowly than bone due to its limited blood supply. However, when extra oxygen circulates in the bloodstream, it can reach tendons and ligaments more effectively. This increased oxygen supply can accelerate the healing process for muscle strains caused by training, as well as sprains, strains, and recovery after surgery. By reducing inflammation and boosting circulation in the injured area, your body becomes more capable of repairing the small injuries that occur between exercise sessions.
When dealing with chronic pain rooted in inflammation, incorporating Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) into your overall treatment plan can bring noticeable relief. While it should complement other recovery methods rather than replace them, HBOT has shown promising results. For instance, a clinical trial involving fibromyalgia patients revealed that regular HBOT sessions significantly reduced pain levels and improved overall quality of life. Participants also experienced a decrease in the number of tender points, highlighting HBOT’s potential benefits as part of a comprehensive pain management strategy.
The brain demands more oxygen than any other organ, making it essential for maintaining mental focus and clarity. When more oxygen reaches neural tissue, it often leads to a sense of calmness and mental stability. In a study involving healthy older adults, researchers discovered that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) enhanced overall cognitive function and attention. Participants experienced quicker processing speeds, and MRI scans showed increased cerebral blood flow. Many individuals report feeling more energetic and emotionally balanced after just a few sessions. Additionally, improvements in sleep quality often occur around the same time.
Oxygen plays a crucial role in powering the energy production that occurs in your mitochondria. When you undergo hyperbaric treatment, it encourages the growth of new blood vessels in tissues that require them, a process known as angiogenesis. This treatment also helps stem cells move from the bone marrow to where they are needed. Over time, this cellular repair supports sustained health and vitality, especially when combined with other recovery methods. In a study involving older adults, participants who completed 60 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) experienced an increase in telomere length and a decrease in senescent immune cells, both of which are indicators of biological aging.
Typically, a session lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. During this time, you relax inside the chamber as the pressure slowly increases. Many people compare the sensation to descending in a plane. While you breathe, you can pass the time by reading, listening to music, browsing your phone, or simply resting.
In most cases, people can feel some changes in their bodies following a single visit, although the real effects start showing up after multiple sessions. Typically, people only require 3 to 5 sessions to achieve improvements in their sleeping and energy states. When patients require special attention, such as in the treatment of an injury or in post-operative recovery, they might be required to have 10 to 20 sessions over a few weeks.

Top professional sports teams like the Broncos, Wallabies, Brisbane Lions, Brisbane Bullets, NSW Blues, and Dolphins regularly utilise TH7’s hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers between their training sessions and games.
In the world of professional sports, there’s no room for treatments that don’t deliver real results. Performance teams incorporate hyperbaric oxygen therapy into their recovery programs because it proves effective, just like cold exposure and contrast therapy. During intense training periods, teams schedule multiple therapy sessions each week and reduce the frequency when training loads decrease. The chambers at Byron Bay are identical to those used by these sports teams, maintaining the same pressure settings.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) offers benefits on its own, but when it’s part of a comprehensive, seven-part recovery approach, the real advantages begin to show. At TH7 in Byron Bay, we bring together infrared and traditional saunas, contrast pools, ice baths, compression therapy, red light therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen all under one roof, creating a holistic environment for recovery.
A popular combination at our facility involves starting with a hyperbaric oxygen session followed by time in our red light therapy bed. This pairing works on cellular recovery from two fronts and leaves you deeply relaxed. Conveniently, the red light therapy bed is located next to the hyperbaric chambers, making the transition seamless. This dual approach targets cellular mechanisms effectively.
If you care about recovery through training, combining an ice bath first thing in the morning and HBOT a few hours after is a good way to reap different recovery advantages without any interference from each other. Our team can help you design your ideal protocol in line with your training program. You don’t need to make use of all available therapies each visit; just choose what best suits the demands of your training week.
The new TH7 Byron Bay studio is opening soon, joining the rest of the TH7 network across Brisbane and Noosa, with a Gold Coast studio also opening shortly. You can drop in for a single session or take out a membership, with multi-visit packs in between. To secure your spot at a convenient time, book online or reach out if you need any guidance.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (or HBOT) refers to any treatment that subjects your body to high levels of oxygen under greater pressure than normal air pressure. Mild HBOT is conducted at lower pressure levels of 1.3 to 1.5 atmospheres, while clinical HBOT is performed at higher pressure levels of 2.0 atmospheres and above.
Mild HBOT has a strong safety profile for healthy adults. The most common side effect is ear pressure when the tank pressurises, similar to air travel. Our team will help you learn how to relieve ear pressure before your first session.
If you are pregnant, have an untreated pneumothorax, have had ear or sinus surgery recently, suffer from claustrophobia, epilepsy, or uncontrolled high blood pressure, we advise you to see your doctor first. We will discuss your history during our first meeting.
Yes. You can eat something light an hour or two before. Avoid eating too heavily right before, as you’ll be lying down for up to an hour or so.
HBOT appears to be capable of reducing inflammation and treating chronic pain, particularly where the source of pain is either soft tissue damage or poor circulation. Results depend on both patient and diagnosis; however, repeated treatments over several weeks generally prove to be more effective than a single session.
