Infrared Heat therapy uses the wavelength of the visible and non-visible light spectrum of sunlight that heats the body normally.

Infrared saunas work by increasing your body temperature, as the infrared light penetrates 4-5cm deep into the skin. Each session will strengthen the cardiovascular system, improve blood flow to the muscles, boost metabolism, and will assist detox naturally via sweat.

The Benefits of Infrared Saunas

Detox

Daily sauna sweating can help detoxify your body as it rids itself of accumulated highly toxic metals (lead, mercury, nickel, and cadmium) as well as alcohol, nicotine, sulphuric acid, and other organic and inorganic compounds.

Pro-tip: An Infrared sauna followed by a float is a great way to switch off and relax after a long day. That’s why we developed our Relax wellness protocol, combining Infrared sauna and a Float tank – your ticket to a great night’s sleep.

What Is An Infrared Sauna and How Does It Work?

Unlike traditional saunas that heat the air, infrared saunas emit thermal infrared rays which heat the body directly. This type of sauna works off an infrared spectrum that includes near, mid, and far-infrared technology – each of which yields different health benefits.

Near-infrared has the shortest infrared wavelength and absorbs below the skin’s surface to promote wound healing, skin health, and cell regeneration.

Mid-infrared has a slightly longer wavelength to penetrate deeper into the body’s soft tissue, speeding the healing process and administering pain relief when inflammation occurs.

Being of a longer wavelength than near- and mid-infrared, far-infrared penetrates deeper to effectively increase circulation and remove toxins through sweating.

At a molecular level, when infrared radiation is absorbed, transitions begin from a ground state to an excited vibrational state. Once the molecule returns to its original state, the energy is released as heat.

Despite the sauna mimicking the sun’s rays, it does not use UV rays.

FAQs

Can an infrared sauna burn belly fat?

By penetrating your skin and heating your body internally, infrared saunas increase blood circulation and stimulate sweat glands, which then carry off metabolic waste. By mimicking the effects of a cardiovascular exercise, you're able to burn calories and promote weight loss.

However, it's important to note the insufficiency of targeted fat loss. Although sessions can accelerate fat burning, it does not target specific areas of fat distribution.

Can I have an infrared sauna session every day?

Any new activity you set your body to should be done gradually. Adjusting to infrared heat is key to ensuring you maximise the health benefits. Therefore, sessions should be shorter and evenly spread apart when first starting. We recommend to start with a 55 degree infrared sauna and then gradually building it up to hotter temperatures.

Ideally, you'll want to begin with a session of between 20 to 30 minutes. Time spent in a session differs depending on what you're looking for. The sauna sessions we offer range from 20 minutes to one hour - all specifically designed to meet your body's needs.

How many infrared sauna sessions can you have in a week?

If you are just beginning your journey, an average of 3-4 times a week with a session of 20-30 minutes is recommended to achieve the full benefits.

By listening to your body after each session, you can slowly build up the frequency of your sessions and start having daily sessions.

What time of day is best for an infrared sauna session?

Although anytime is good for a session, it ultimately depends on what benefits you're looking to get. A morning session is a great way to seize the day and start on a fresh foot. If you struggle to sleep, choosing an evening session 2-3 hours prior to bed will encourage relaxation and prepare your body for sleep.
