TH7 Women’s Health Dietitian Brisbane

There are a range of health concerns and conditions that are unique to women, including those to do with menstrual cycle irregularities, such as Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis and adenomyosis.

Many women are particularly sensitive to hormonal fluctuations just prior to menstruation and experience PMS. This can entail big shifts in mood, changes in bowels, irritability, back pain, fatigue, changes in appetite, the list goes on.

Research on the impact that diet and lifestyle plays in PMS is still emerging. However, it is known that a balanced diet, regular movement, restorative sleep, and solid stress management can improve symptoms. Key statistics to be aware of:

  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) affects an estimated 8–13% of reproductive-aged women (1)
  • Endometriosis can be a life-defining disease and affects 1 in 7 women or 14% of the population (2)(3)
  • It is estimated that up to 3 of every 4 women experience some form of PMS symptoms (4)
  • 5%-8% of the population experience PMDD, a more severe form of PMS (5)

Menstrual dysfunction

Conditions that cause menstrual dysfunction, like PCOS and endometriosis, are incredibly complex and still not well understood. Research into medical conditions has demonstrated the importance of lifestyle factors including diet, exercise, stress and sleep and the impact these behaviours can have on symptom management as well as fertility.

Key intervention strategies to explore:

  • Mediterranean Style Dietary Pattern (or similar)
  • Inclusion of specific micronutrients linked to improved symptom management
  • Regular Movement
  • Adequate Sleep
  • Stress Management (including psychological support when relevant and required)
  • Supplement Protocols

How can a women's health dietitian help you understand & nourish your body?

Throughout your program, we will encourage you to track and better understand your individual menstrual cycle or any ongoing symptoms, and how to adapt your nutrition and lifestyle changes to the different phases of your cycle. Our program will assist you in your optimal health and creating a protective, sustainable and enjoyable lifestye.

Our women’s health program focuses on five core areas, including:

Symptom management

Personalised dietary strategies to ease symptoms from hormonal imbalances, menstrual cycles, menopause, and chronic conditions, improving overall well-being.

Nourishing food

This phase involves adding nutrient-rich, whole foods to your diet, ensuring you get essential vitamins, minerals, and energy for optimal health. This phase focuses on boosting overall well-being by incorporating plenty of fruits, veggies, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats.

Mindfulness

This phase encourages you to pay attention to your eating habits and body signals, promoting a healthier relationship with food and enhancing overall well-being by being present and aware during meals.

Intuitive eating

The “intuitive eating” phase encourages you to listen to your body’s hunger and fullness cues, helping you develop a healthier and more balanced relationship with food by eating when you’re hungry and stopping when you’re satisfied.

Self care

The “self-care” phase focuses on incorporating practices that nurture your overall well-being, such as regular exercise, adequate sleep, stress management, and making time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation.
